In the process of compiling Siku Quanshu process,a variety of summaries have been formed, including the original drafts(???)written by each imperial cataloger, the introductory summaries(????)copied before each book of Siku Quanshu and the general catalogue of Siku Quanshu(so called Siku Quanshu Zongmu,????????)which is independently published. From the initial drafts to the final Siku Quanshu Zongmu,it has been more than 20 years.During this period, the books in Siku Quanshu were changed, supplemented and re-edited,so the summaries of them were also revised repeatedly. As a result, there are many differences in the text, content or style of these summaries formed in different compilation stages and different versions, which attract a lot of attention from scholars.Previous comparative studies of the Siku summaries mainly focus on the analysis of the similarities and differences between the original drafts and Zongmu,or between the introductory summaries and Zongmu.Based on this, this thesis limits the scope of“collected works of the Southern Song Dynasty”in Siku Quanshu, and makes efforts to compile all kinds of summaries, systematically examine the forming process of the them, and excavate the inheritance and changing factors,so as to better understand the compilation essence of the Zongmu, and the influence of the cultural policies of the Qing Dynasty on the compilers. The thesis is divided into two parts: the first and the second. The first part is a general theory, which aims at the overall understanding and grasp of the collected works of the Southern Song Dynasty, specifically divided into the following three aspects:First of all,an overview on the summaries of collected works of the Southern Song Dynasty. Before analyzing the differences among the various summaries from the original drafts to Zongmu, the author explain the status and characteristics of them,so as to better understand the modification factors of the summaries. As far as we can get now,in addition to the introductory summaries,Zongmu and Simplified Annotated Catalogue of Siku Quanshu, there exist original drafts 32,Preliminary Catalogues of Siku Quanshu(????????????)77,summaries before the Collection of rare books in Wuying Hall(?????????)and the Essential books of Siku Quanshu(????????)in Chizao Hall 13 of each kind. This research classifies all the summaries into five types:sub-compilation draft, collected summary, publicated summary, introductory summary and Zongmu summary, and introduces them respectively.Secondly, give examples of differences in the summaries of the collected works of the Southern Song Dynasty. The summaries of each book will vary more or less as it is supplemented, edited and polished. Some are format differences and some are changes to the contents. This article mainly examines the four aspects of the summaries, enumerating the differences: The first is the title, the number of volumes and the way of the author's writes, which has the function of checking and examining books. The second is the introduction of the author's life and deeds,so as to understand the social background. The third, description of the contents and the circulation of books,to present the spread the background of print. Finally, comments on the merits and disadvantages of the books, referring to the previous comments, and sums up the editing attitude of the scholars in imperial pavilion. These four parts constitute the main elements of the summaries, and make the summaries inherit the sense of the bibliography and function. The next chapter is a textual review, which is mainly a book-by-book analysis of the synopsis of the collections of the Southern Song Dynasty. In this thesis,34 writers and their36 collections are selected from the Siku Quanshu, and the summaries is arranged according to the book order of the description of the Zongmu. The summaries of each book is composed of three parts: “collation” “proofreading” and “discussion”.The first two is a collection of the different words in a feed for comparison. It is mainly to correct the general text differences, but also points out the text errors of the summary itself.“Discussion” mainly focuses on two aspects: one is to compare the similarities and differences between the summaries, and analyze the inheritance and modification of the texts;the second is to compare the differences of the content and analyze it.The main reason for this arrangement is that by clustering all the summaries from the same book together,it is beneficial to see the process of succession, development and evolution among the summaries.Through the examination it can be found that the reasons for the differences between the summaries are complex and multifarious, which are mainly related to the change of the transcripts, the editing and deleting of the texts, the alteration of the imperial catalogers, the deletion of the copy supervisors and the different academic concepts of the imperial catalogers. To sum up,the writing of the summaries start from the original drafts to the introductory summaries and then to the Zongmu that becomes the final version, they have been added, deleted and retouched many times. The system of the summaries is more complete and the content is more rich,so as to better play the function of “identify academic schools and examine their origins and flow”.
