The increasing number of patients in China has imposed high demand of medical resources, presenting the importance of developing new medical services context based on the emerging technologies. In China, the development of healthcare information technology still stays at the primary stages, due to the features of healthcare domain(e.g.,high medical demand, privacy concern). We still face difficulties in improving the effectiveness of healthcare information technology(HIT).Recently, the topics of improving effectiveness and efficiency of HIT has drawn much attention from both industrial and academic areas. However, due to the complex of medical service process, how HIT could bring benefits to medical services is still required further exploration in both theoretical and practical view. The application of emerging technologies has generated many emerging healthcare contexts, also promoting the transformation of physicians' participation behavior from passive to active. This thesis focuses on the physician view, thus we choose two physician-driven contexts: Intelligent medical services and online health community. This study has three objectives,1)exploring the impact of HIT's meaningful use on medical performance;2)exploring the informative effects of physicians' online responses in physician-driven OHC;3)exploring the persuasive effect of physicians' online responses in physician-driven OHC.Based on the literature of HIT impact, this study constructed theoretical model based on two overarching theories,knowledge-based view and persuasion theory of communication. The main contexts of this study are hospital information system and online health community. Thus, this study collected data from both offline(two hospitals)and online(online Q&A platform)sources. This study firstly adopted qualitative analysis(e.g.,interview and contextualization)to identify the influential factors of HIT's meaningful use from external and internal views and developed a quasi-experiment to empirically analyze the casual relationships. Then, this study adopted Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA)to analyze the online health communication text and explored its impacts on patients' online consultation behavior.Lastly, this study adopted machine learning method and fixed-effect model to empirically analyze multi-model data and explored the influential path of patients' choices and its boundary condition from emotional view.According to the empirical results, this study found that HIT could effectively decrease the medical cost, and improve the medical accuracy. However, the pressure from workload and rules in organization will weaken the positive effect of HIT.In online health platform, physicians' knowledge sharing style has various impacts on patients' choices.Specifically, when physicians adopted the generalist strategy, less patients will pay for the online consultation services. However, this negative effect will be weakened by physicians' category boundary behavior and their professional status.More importantly,in online environment, physicians' professional status still plays the main role of influencing patients' choices.Furthermore, based on the multi-model data, this study found that the emotional elements in physicians' online responses is positively associated with patients' choices.Specifically,in online health communication, emotion delivers through physicians' online responses and profile image, positively influencing patients' choices. However, the technical knowledge delivered through physicians only works when they stay in high professional status. The findings in this study could provide theoretical foundation and framework for the understanding of HIT impacts. This study revealed the how HIT impacts are influenced by individual and organizational level factors, which could fulfill the research gaps in HIT literature.Further, this study analyzed the information structure of physicians' knowledge sharing, which could provide the theoretical foundation for physicians' participation behavior's effects.Lastly, based on the multi-model data, this study systematically built the research framework for understanding the path and boundary conditions of patients' choices. In practical, this study could provide the guidelines for HIT investors and users. This study could provide the guidelines from the view of practical and policy to increase the effectiveness of HIT implementation. The analysis of online platform could provide insights to solutions of solving patients' medical needs through using online platform, and improve the medical burden in China. This study could contribute to the service innovation in healthcare domain through integrating IS into medical services, which could improve the effectiveness of IS in healthcare domain.
