Abstract/Summary:
Today, in the medical environment the ability to access important information at a moment's notice is highly sought after or even expected. The time between researching a patient's medical history and providing an accurate diagnosis could be the difference between life and death. The growth of computer usage and global nature of the Internet has caused Information Technology (IT) to develop faster ways to meet the consumer's needs. The purpose of this non-experimental quantitative study was to evaluate factors for adopting cloud computing in medical facilities. The study analyzed the factors associated with the adoption of cloud computing from Information System Directors/CIOs in IT decision making roles within medical facilities. The factors associated with the adoption of cloud computing are security, need, reliability, and cost effectiveness of cloud computing. The purpose of this study was to provide IT decision makers with useful information to help them with the decision to incorporate cloud computing services for their medical facilities. The findings showed a high correlation between three out of the four independent variables and the adoption decision. The three independent variables: security, reliability, and cost-effectiveness showed a lack of independence toward the dependent variable: adoption. The need variable was the only variable the showed lack of dependency toward the adoption decision.
