Abstract/Summary:
This is a phenomenological study that focused on the security strategies of the Great Lakes Region in Africa from the perspectives of African immigrants. In this study, the research question focused on the examination of the security strategies and the role that political and legislative institutions play to protect citizens of the African of Great Lakes Region. This research utilized interviews to collect data. The purposive sampling procedure was utilized. Eleven participants were selected for the interview. For data analysis, NVivo software was used. This research has social change implications not only for the Great Lakes Region but also for other African countries and other continents with vulnerable regions. The phenomenological methodology was used because security strategies in the African Great Lakes region countries constitute an ongoing phenomenon. This study highlights the significance and implications of Great Lakes Region in Africa then analyzes the security issues and concerns that exists in the region; it also discusses the security strategies taken to make the region safe and secure and then provides recommendations for further improvement in the security strategies in order to reduce forced migration in the region.
