Abstract/Summary:
Computer-aided engineering systems are currently being developed to support multidiscipline studies in various engineering fields. These systems usually consist of a geometry system, engineering computer programs, and a data communication system for transferring data between the engineering programs.;Techniques have been developed to support the construction of a computer-aided engineering system for aerospace vehicle analysis and design based on the analysis of past approaches to engineering integration and utilization of commercial database management systems. These techniques have been bundled together to form a single system architecture.;The system architecture consists of the engineering programs, a user interface for managing the system, a catalog system for maintaining data about the programs, data, and users, individual work areas for each engineer, and a global database that is used as a repository of all engineering data created for central use. A relational information system was developed for this system, and two utilities were developed for interactively editing the database and communicating data between the analysis programs. A sample problem is included to illustrate the system.
