Abstract/Summary:
Due to the strong interest and growing activity associated with the development of virtual classes implemented with computer-mediated communications technology, additional research into the proper and efficient use of the requisite computer and communication technologies is needed (Berge & Collins, 1995). While the specific technologies used in individual situations have been described elsewhere (Paulsen, 1992), research is lacking that details a set of broadly applicable technological functions and services to properly implement a model virtual course (Harasim, 1990). The purpose of this study is to construct a specification of technology functions, resources, and services that could be used to enhance the educational outcome of computer-mediated communications-based, higher education, distance learning courses, which provide computer concept and operation skills training.
