Abstract/Summary:
Trust and shared interest are the building blocks for most relationships in human society. Deceptive actions and the associated risks not only affect individuals, but also group of people. For semantic web, e-commerce web site, and online virtual communities, trust is not only a fundamental building block but also critical for successful operations. Although trust relationship in cyberspace can be built up more quickly and easily, it's more fragile. A rumor circulated in a grocery store of a small town may slowly affect local patrons, while the communication speed and the number of affected people for the same information in an online community can be much higher.; This research concentrates on modeling and analyzing the deceptive action in the open rating system; especially studying the way deceptive data flow among subjects in the web of trust. The contribution of this research lies in that we proposed several novel ideas on assessing deceptive action and how the structure of the virtual community affects the information flow among subjects in the web of trust The quantitative evaluation model is based on the information flow policy and web of trust; it is employed to calculate an accurate spreading range of deceptive data. In the situation that the complete specification of the Web of Trust and information flow policy are not available, the proposed qualitative approach can evaluate the estimated spread range of deceptive data in a very fast and relatively accurate way.
