Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation examines the Korean case of how and why people adopt and use mobile TV--DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), a newly emerging mobile multimedia technology and explores its integration into every day life. It identifies the elements that people consider important in their decisions to adopt mobile TV and explores how the use of mobile TV influences different experiences of media use in the context of public and private spaces by overcoming spatial and temporal limitations of traditional media.;Incorporating surveys and qualitative interviews, the dissertation focuses on the emerging trends that transform media use practices and the role of mobile TV in the public's everyday life, this dissertation aims to better understand why mobile TV in Korea is emerging and diffusing into the public's daily lives and society, how the use of mobile TV adapts to existing patterns of media use, what is expected from the use of mobile TV, and what the potential impacts of mobile TV are on traditional media consumption.
