Transformation Of Space And Change Of Identity In The Process Of The New Urbanization

Currently,the "the earth bounded China" has transformed to "urban China","the earth unbounded China town" increasingly forming the new era of urban social structure.In the past local scenario,"Who am I" was often associated with "Where am I",but rapid urbanization has changed this association.Because the urbanization not only lead to transformation of the spatial structure of the traditional society,but also make most of the population out of their previous residence,which making the identity of the residents dramatic shock and change.Moreover,the urbanization of space(urbanization of land)faster than the identity of urbanization(urbanization of people),which not only makes the civilization has lagged far behind,leaving the identity of resident not match to urban space's transformation.This problem has increasingly affect China's future social and economic development.With the new urbanization proposing and implementing,our central government determines to build in the city's from the "space" dimension toward "identity" dimension.In other words,with the implementation of new urbanization thinking,healthy urbanization standard is not a single "urbanization of space" or "urbanization of population",but pay more attention to "urbanization of citizenship" Studying the interaction between the space and identity and their functions in the new urbanization process,is the basis of this article to expand the core issues and clues.Theorically speaking,as the characterization of society,space's transformation has become a social structure reconstruction and social resources.Similarly,identity also has the social character,which means that pursuit and construction of social order.Nowadays,modernity and urbanization are continuing to strengthen Chinese society,which makes identity gradually out of bound by the local"place",but more connecting with the vast urban and social space.Based on this,we try to set forth"space-identity" theoretical framework.That is to say,social space and social identity seen as two factors influence each other,which is connected lifestyle both critical link.In this paper,we use the "space-identity" theory to analyze three cases in the new urbanization process in Wuhan,in order to get a glimpse of the different sub-types of urbanization space transformation and identity change.From the "space-identity" framework,these three cases can be"rural community" and "industrialization of agriculture" and "suburbanization" which can represent information of changes between space and identity.First,from the "rural community" typical,we found that the government envisaged the construction of a new socialist countryside,in order to innovate the space to promoting rural livelihoods and identity change.But to our disappointed,the lack of new production space makes private living space and public space community has become a major factor to induce resident identity change.New Rural Community provides a city standard living space,interior decoration became an important foundation for new residents to build identity,some new rituals and power differentiation are constantly emerging in the process.In addition,various new public space has gradually formed in the new community,but not before the new residents have learned how to define and use these new spaces,"privatization of public space" has become problem of new rural community.So,how to coordinate the relationship between production space and living space and its relationship with farmers between identity,which will be the most major issues in the new rural community building.Secondly,from the "industrialization of agriculture" dimensions,the agritainment is one of the most important forms of rural tourism.Agritainment is the inevitable outcome of the development of China's urbanization,which was born in the process of de-ruralization.Meanwhile,the agritainment has created a new rise in the local space,agritainment operators continue to native villages to create a space,thereby enabling the agritainment of the "local nature" to better fit into the market.This meet urban consumption and leisure aesthetic new space to the local farmers on the change of identity,the farmers began to have more of their own identity urbanization imagination,which makes them from"recreational person" into "consumer",and from the "becoming a farmer" to "playing farmers"transformation."Peasant" gradually evolved into a symbol only for profit,the urbanism is full of local space,which becomes the discipline of identity in the agritainment.Finally,from the perspective of suburbanization.Wuhan as an inland city,its suburbanization was begun more recently,and its main force was real estate.Government and market subjects formed a strong "growth coalition",a large-scale demolition order suburbs space showing a "broken" and"polarization" features.In the new upscale community,the developers for potential buyers to provide a highly segments of living space and identity marked.While also building gated community space for new residents move to stay the owners' rights center identity.Compared with this,in the swing community space,residents are forming a long-term confrontation with the government and the developers of resistance identity.Differentiation of the various groups in the living space,inevitably caused the residential segregation,or hidden,or are these isolated not only presents a physical space,but also has become a firmly established internal order and security of identity.Thus,social behavior is a kind of spatial practice,subjects transform space through action,and space in turn shaped by a certain field of subject domain identity.The "space-identity" theory to observe China's urbanization,we find that China's urbanization has long been "compression" feature:the transformation of urban geospatial speed is too swift,it is far faster than the residents of interaction change networks and value system.Undoubtedly,the root causes of the current problems of cities and urban crisis is largely stems from the urban space spoiling and deconstruct people's identity.At present,China's urbanization urgent need to achieve from the "methodology-oriented" to"ontology-oriented" transformation,this is the only way to establish true justice social space.In order to implement "space-identity" harmony,we should build a "good city",and the ultimate question of"good city" lies effectively answer the following two questions--" urban development for whom "and"who build the city".If in the previous urbanization construction,we ignore these two issues,then the"people-oriented" and the current "space justice" new urbanization development,it is reviewed again this thinking is undoubtedly very necessary.In short,the inspiration from "spatial-identity" theory of the new urbanization is--rebuilding of urban and rural space cannot be contrary to the needs of residents,but to further the public service of the residents,and actively guide social subjects reasonable and orderly self-expression demands,in order to achieve a healthy ecological patterns of urban and rural social governance.
