In 1919,after the October Revolution, the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was established. For most of the 20 th century Ukraine was under Soviet rule.Ukrainian realistic oil painting has the tradition of Soviet oil painting and its own unique national artistic spirit. This article uses the methods of literature investigation, formal analysis and historical research, aiming at studying Ukrainian realistic oil painting art in Soviet period. The study of Ukrainian realistic oil painting is not only the study of style and history, but also the study of oil painting's noumenon language and aesthetic thought. The first chapter of this paper starts with the social background and literary and artistic policies in the Soviet period, combing the development process of Ukrainian realistic oil painting in the Soviet period from 1917 to 1991.This article tells about the avant-garde art in Ukraine of the Soviet Union in the 1920 s,the socialist realism style from the 1930 s to the 1950 s,and the artistic changes that broke the unified situation of socialist realism in the 1960 s.There appeared a variety of realism styles such as traditional return and decoration, seriousness, etc. From the 1970 s to the 1980 s,they turned to formalism, classicism, photographic realism, etc. The second chapter focuses on the study of external factors of realistic oil paintings, which are the soil for preserving, cultivating and creating Ukrainian realistic oil paintings. Most of Ukraine's realistic oil paintings during the Soviet period were collected in the Ukrainian National Museum of Fine Arts, which grew up with the Soviet Union. In the changing times of wind and rain,it witnessed the history of Soviet Union Ukrainian oil painting and left precious artistic wealth for Ukraine and the people of the world. The artists who created these works were all trained through professional studies, and the cradle for training Soviet and Ukrainian artists was mainly Kiev Academy of Fine Arts in Ukraine. The Academy of Fine Arts, established in October 1917 under gunfire, trained a large number of artistic talents for Ukraine throughout the Soviet period and made great contributions to the inheritanceand development of Ukrainian fine arts in the Soviet Union.Among them,Ukrainian female artists who graduated from this academy of fine arts had a great influence during the Soviet period, especially Tatiana JaberLonska. It can be said that her achievements have written half of the history of oil painting in Soviet Ukraine. The third chapter analyzes the Soviet Union and Ukraine's realistic oil painting art from the content of theme creation. In the turbulent 20 th century,Ukraine experienced revolution, the Great Patriotic War and national and social construction. In such an era,Ukrainian artists have also unearthed many themes of oil painting creation: socialist construction, youth, children and maternal love, scenery and still life,as well as the great patriotic war and the war in national history. The artists have depicted the heroic epic of Soviet-Ukrainian war and peace from various angles.Among them, portraits show Ukrainian people in various periods, occupations and images of the Soviet Union from the depths of their hearts. The fourth chapter deeply analyzes the language of Soviet Union and Ukraine realistic oil painting. This paper analyzes the sketch, color manuscript and conception in the process of creation from the three works with different characteristics of oil painting " Fife on the Volga River"," Life" and " Grain".At the same time,it explores the oil painting materials used by Soviet painters, such as pigments, canvases, pens, color oil, etc.,and analyzes the application of materials and the performance of techniques in the artist's creation process. This paper summarizes the aesthetic thoughts and characteristics of the Soviet Union and Ukraine realistic oil painting, and expounds the national spirit of Ukraine realistic oil painting in its artistic characteristics of objective authenticity, typicality, nationality, socialism and romanticism. The fifth chapter is a survey of the popularity and times of Ukrainian realistic oil painting and a reflection on realism. The creation of realistic oil paintings is of a strong epochal nature. In the 1990 s after the disintegration of the Soviet Union,Ukrainian realistic oil paintings have had more interpretations, and Ukrainian oil paintings have also formed a diversified artistic atmosphere. The concept of " art belongs to the people" ran through the entire Soviet Union in Ukrainian realistic oil painting.Whenwe look back at the Soviet Union and Ukraine's realistic oil paintings,we are also examining the significance of the realistic era and the Soviet oil paintings that our country studied in that year,so as to reflect on the deep significance of the current realistic oil paintings.Through research,we found that no matter how artistic style changed during the Soviet period, realism was always the mainstream.Ukraine's realistic oil painting not only combines the realistic tradition of the 19 th century, but also has the characteristics of Soviet realistic oil painting. At the same time, its realistic oil painting works present unique Ukrainian national spirit.Lenin's concept of " art belongs to the people" was also reflected in Ukrainian realistic oil paintings throughout the Soviet period.Art and times are always closely integrated.Whether it is critical realism or socialist realism or other realism,it is only a method of artistic creation. And artistic creation lies in people, not in what kind of creation method.Artistic creation is free, natural, personal and popular. No matter what genre,or in what era,how art is created,we all need to look at things objectively, feel life sincerely, start from the heart, and create the beauty of life that belongs to ourselves, the times and the nation.
