Objective:To observe the effects of scalp acupuncture combined with music therapy on spasticity, motor function, nerve function, and activities of daily living of spasmodic hemiplegia after stroke,to study the therapeutic effects of scalp acupuncture combined with music therapy on spasmodic hemiplegia after stroke,to supply the evidence of more effective therapy for its clinical application. Methods:A total of 100 patients of post-stroke spasmodic hemiplegia were randomized into a control group(34 cases),a music therapy group(32 cases)and a combination therapy group with scalp acupuncture and music therapy(34 cases).Drugs for controlling blood pressure, blood sugar, blood lipid, and the therapy for neurotrophic were basic treatment for all three groups.Based on this,in the control group, the routine rehabilitation therapy was applied, including the removal of various incentives that cause spasm, the correction of body position and the physical therapy. In the music therapy group, the music therapy was added on the treatment as the control group. The music physician used the rhythmic auditory stimulation, the patterned sensory enhancement and the therapeutic instrumental music playing to set up the task in the treatment. In the combination therapy group, scalp acupuncture was added on the treatment as the music therapy group. The anterior oblique line of vertex-tempora(MS 6)and the posterior oblique line of vertex-tempora(MS 7)on the contralateral side were selected and stimulated with penetrating needling technique. The needles were retained.During the needling retaining, the needles were rotated once every 10 min,for 2 min each time.Scalp acupuncture and music therapy were given at the same time, one session a day, totally for 5 sessions a week, continuously for 4 weeks. Before and after treatment, the modified Ashworth scale(MAS)of the affected elbows and knees while their passive movement at static condition were observed to evaluate the spasm’ level of the affected limbs, the Fugl-Meyer assessment(FMA)scores were used to evaluate the moter function of patients’affected limbs, the scores of the Modified-Edinburgh Scandinavian Stroke Scale(MESSS)were used to evaluate the nerve function of the patients and the Barthel index(BI)scores were used to evaluated the patients’ activities of their daily living. Results:The results of MAS,FMA,MESSS and BI were not different before treatment in the patients among the three groups(all P>0.05),indicating the comparability among groups. After treatment,MAS grade and MESSS scores were all reduced remarkably in the three groups as compared with those before treatment(all P<0.05).FMA and BI scores were all increased apparently as compared with those before treatment(all P<0.05).After treatment,MAS grade and MESSS scores in the combination therapy group were lower than those in the music therapy group and the control group(all P<0.05).MAS grade and MESSS scores in the music therapy group were lower than those in the control group(both P<0.05).FMA and BI scores in the combination therapy group were higher than those in the music therapy group and the control group(all P<0.05).FMA and BI scores in the music therapy group were higher than those in the control group(both P<0.05).Conclusion:On the basis of basic drug therapy and routine rehabilitation training, scalp acupuncture combined with music therapy can achieve more remarkable clinical therapeutic effects on post-stroke spasmodic hemiplegia. This alliance therapy can improve the degree of hemiplegic limb spasm, the motor function of hemiplegic limbs, the patient’s nerve function and the patient’s daily living ability more effectively.
