The HIV/AIDS pandemic was first detected in 1985 in Botswana.Since then the disease began to spread at an alarming rate which resulted in the loss of considerable manpower in both government and private workplaces.By the year 2000 Botswana had the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in the world being followed by Swaziland.This research was carried out to determine the effectiveness of the different intervention programs being implemented to curb the spread of HIV pandemic in the country.The main purpose of the study was evaluate the extent to which these programs have been accepted by the people and to seek ways in which the response may be improved.Data was collected from a research sample of 150 people who were subdivided into three groups based on their ages.The ages were 15-30 years;31-50 years and above 50 years.Another proportion was obtained from health workers in the institutions in and around Gaborone.The data collected was analysed quantitatively using the SPSS software and also qualitatively.Results show that the intervention programs are effective although there is need to increase awareness.
