The theory of Zangxiang (visceral and their manifestations) is the core parts of traditional Chinese medicine. The theory of zangxiang mainly studies the physiological functions and pathological changes of the viscera, the description of which mainly focuses on the five zang-organs physiological functions. The five zang-organs include the heart, the liver, the lung, the spleen and the kidney. The liver is one of the five zang-organs. Though terminologically identical with some of the organs in modern medicine, the zang-fu organs in zangxiang theory are quite different in physiological functions. Because the zangxiang theory of liver was established mainly on the basis of life experience and clinical practice. The formation of the theory of visceral picture of liver has experienced a long process. Many literatures had recorded some contents about liver. The zangxiang The publication of Huangdi Neijing symbolized the formation of such a new theoretical system of liver. So the study of comparing with the Han dynasty and the modern theory of liver, and focusing on the theory process is very necessary.Academic purpose will be served by building models that improve our conceptualization or generalization, locating the theory in space and in time, to explore the dynamic changing regularity of the liver theory. With the development of TCM, the liver theory now encounters another chance to develop. On the basis of the theoretical study and clinical practice made by the previous generations, the visceral manifestation of the liver will certainly develop into a new era. The study of liver theory is based on traditional philology, including historiography, critical interpretation of ancient texts, synchronic description, etc. The aim is to analyze the theory’s process of construction and its evolutional track. This article divided into six parts. The first part is clear dividing the study’s task, object, and category. The second part is to construct simulation models. The third part is advance on visceral manifestation of the liver from the perspective of modern TCM. The4th part is review concerning advancing of physiology of the liver in Han Dynasty. In the5th part, we compared the Han Dynasty and the modern visceral manifestation of the liver. The6th part is clearer understanding of the dynamic changing regularity in the evolutionary process.
