The enterprise external environment is full of compatitivness and challenges due to the economic integration and globalization. In order to maintain their core competence, the enterprises need to obtain knowledge continuously. Knowledge management, therefore, becomes the key element which determines the life circle of the enterprises. In a world of high-tech internet, knowledge transfer is comparatively the most effective and direct way to gain knowledge. Therefore, enterprises tend to cooperate with each other based on network, in which they are able to make use of knowledge send by network members who can also gain usefull information simultaneously. The virtual enterprise network provides an effective platform for inter-organizational knowledge transfer, and the member enterprises are able to build a long-term cooperative relationship to achieve knowledge transfer efficiently. With the changing environment, the virtual enterprise network is very dynamic, so that knowledge transfer becomes all the more complex. Thus, it is worthwhile to analyze the developmental and evolutionary mode of virtual enterprise network. Meanwhile, there is realistic significance to investigate the mechanism of knowledge transfer among member enterprises in the network, so as to comprehensively improve governance performances of the virtual enterprise network and enhance competitive advantages of individual members in this network.First of all, this paper explores the evolutionary mechanism of virtual enterprise network, including the formation background, the evolutionary force and process, as well as the efficiency boundary of virtual enterprise network. Knowledge transfer among virtual enterprise network members is discussed in the second part where the knowledge source is identified, and its dynamic mechanism is depicted. Based on that, the risk type and risk control of knowledge transfer in the network is analyzed. The most important part of this section is that the influencing factors determining the efficiencies of network’s knowledge transfer is identified, based on which a conceptual model of knowledge transfer in virtual enterprise network is proposed. Thirdly, an analogue simulation is conducted on influencing factors of knowledge transfer performance in virtual enterprise network. Then, the conceptual model assumptions of these influencing factors are verified by the differential kinetic equation. Therefore, the purpose of conducting a quantitative analysis on knowledge transfer performance in the virtual enterprise network is achieved. Finally, some enterprises, selected from Chinese auto industry, are set up as empirical analysis objects. Structure equation model is proposed to make an empirical test, further verifying the correctness of conceptual model assumptions and differential kinetic model. On this basis, management measures are provided to improve knowledge transfer performance in virtual enterprise network. This paper attempts to examine the interactive relationship between evolutionary mechanism of virtual enterprise network and knowledge transfer among its members. The research on the behavioral characteristics of virtual enterprise network enriches present organization theory. From realistic point, this study provides a theoretical basis and evaluation criteria for virtual enterprise network on how to improve its organizational performance and maintain its competitive abilities.
