With the rapid development of computer and network technology, the entire society’s information environment is changing. The patterns of library must cater to the need of user’s information behaviors. The university library is an important part of the development of universities, as an academic institution for teaching and research services, is the second class of students and the center for information literacy. It plays a vital role in the students’growth process. However, previous studies found that many students would experience barriers in the process of using the library, as these barriers cannot be timely and effectively addressed, psychological barrier will be occurred and have bad influence on the normal functions of the library. In this study, in the context of Chinese library, a long-term qualitative research was conducted for the university students and confirmed the existence of library anxiety among university students. Library anxiety as a negative psychological barrier is under the influence of many factors, but library factor is the primary factor. The study has a more profound understanding of library anxiety and its influencing factors through semi-structured interviews. Finally,1389valid samples were obtained through the library anxiety questionnaire, which were from30colleges and universities in China. The Library Anxiety Scale is constructed and divided into resource, retrieval, policy, staff, knowledge, comfort, affection seven dimensions. The survey data shows that library anxiety overall average is2.78, compared with foreign standard and one the study found, in a moderate level of anxiety. The resource dimension is in a highest level of anxiety, but the lowest level of the affection dimension. There are significantly differences between the dimensions and sample groups. The demographic variables, personal characteristics, academic achievement, information behavior, library training and retrieval courses as influence factors, are analyzed by using independent samples T-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and other empirical methods, and a model of library anxiety factors is also constructed by using of multiple regression analysis. Although the library anxiety is affected by many factors, like social factors, libraries and the user’s factors, but libraries is the main factor. The innovations of this study are mainly reflected in:First, this study found that library anxiety prevalence in Chinese university students, which is at a moderate level as a whole, showing the differences in dimensions and samples. The main influencing factors of library anxiety are also found. According to the conclusions, the reasons for library anxiety and its influencing factors are discussed, the specific strategies to solve the library anxiety are proposed, so that library can carry out the user service better in the future. Compared with the foreign research data and the data from the study, the similarities and differences among themselves in the library anxiety on university students are emerged, it also enriches the globalization data of library anxiety.Second, this study develop a new, reliable and valid Library Anxiety Scale based on the existing scale, it will be a measurement tool for the future study in library anxiety field. Some dimensions are removed in previous study, and some dimensions are added in the new situation. The new scale not only can be a tool which can understand their psychological experience of library among library users right now, but also provides a reference for similar questions. With the methodology of empirical research is concerned by researchers in the field of library science, the development of measurement tools will become an important part in scientific research process.Third, this study starts from the perspective of the user library anxiety, following the problem-solving ideas to do research, making research more relevant. According to the conclusions, a new service pattern is proposed to solve the library anxiety. It was from the perspective of user satisfaction in the previous study; this study focuses more on the negative feelings generated by the users in using the library.
