Diagnosis And Treatment Experience Of Primary Tracheal Tumor:a Case Series Study

Objectives. Primary tracheal tumor is a kind of neoplasm of respiratory system. It is a rare disease which is mostly malignant, asymptomatic and hard to be diagnosed. The treatment strategy is controversial and prognosis is poor. The aim of this study is to retrospectively analyze the clinical characteristics, laboratory inspection, surgical methods, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and prognosis of primary tracheal tumors.Methods. Cases of primary tracheal tumors were retrospectively studied from2010to2015. The demographic data (gender, age, etc.), clinical features, chest CT results, pathology and immunohistochemistry examination, surgical methods, adjuvant treatments (chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy) and prognosis were described. The clinicopathological data and recent literature on "primary tracheal tumor" published from1990to2015were analyzed.Results. There were15men and7women (male incidence68.2%), ranging in age from30to86years (median,61.5years), with13of the22patients (59.1%) being smokers. The tumors located in the upper1/331.8%, middlel/318.2%, lowerl/350%. There were13patients with malignant tumor (7SCCs,5ACCs,1carcinoid), and9patients with benign tumor (3leiomyomas,2hamartomas,I sialoma,1papillary epithelioma,2inflammatory polyps).5cases were received surgery treatment, and the rest17patients were received interventional therapy. Follow-up ranged from1.7to60.2months (median,22.6months). One patient died and two were found post-operative metastasis.Conclusion. Primary tracheal tumor is a rare and onset-hidden disease. Chest CT and bronchoscopy are the most important methods for diagnosis and, surgery/interventional therapy with adjuvant chemotherapy/radiotherapy is benefit to the patients with advanced cancer.
