PurposeCarcinoma is a general but scaring lethiferous disease. Western medicine majorly adopts killing methodology with endless disadvantages. Master Butau Chang (张步桃),one of four outstanding physicians in Taiwan Chinese medicine, has specialized and remarkable efficiency in carcinoma treatment. Therefore, this thesis collects and analyzes Master Chang’s clinic cases to elucidate his carcinoma treatment philosophy for the best reference of carcinoma treatment by Chinese medicine.MethodFirstly, the carcinoma is well discussed in the view point of Chinese medicine and western medicine. Treatment upon syndrome differentiation at carcinoma is then introduced in ancient and modern Chinese medicine from Warring States periods(战国时代)until now. Furthermore, the carcinoma in Treatise on Cold Pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases (伤寒杂病论)by Master Zhongjing Chang(张仲景)is also analyzed in details. Finally, the analysis of Master Chang’s carcinoma treatment methodology is well established as an extraordinarily prominent example of Chinese medicine inheritance for more than twenty centuries.Result:One quite important rule proposed by Master Chang for carcinoma treatment should be followed seriously:harmony with carcinoma. Under the instruction of these two rules, conducted are (1) the etiology and pathogenesis analysis of carcinoma coming from phlegm dampness, qi stagnation, blood stasis, and heat toxin;(2) the application of Eight Treatments on Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases(伤寒论)(Sweating, vomiting, descending, harmony, warming, cleaning, cutting, replenishing);(3) treatment emphasis of blood promotion and stasis dispelling as well as tumor attacking with qi medicine;(4) some rules of Chinese medicine tricks and bans. It provides a clear carcinoma treatment philosophy. Clinic case studies covering sixteen kinds of carcinoma are provided for Chinese medicine physicians to consolidate Master Chang’s carcinoma treatment methodology.Conclusion:Afterwards, six kinds of carcinoma specially and efficiently treated by Master Chang are provided with detailed case studies to demonstrate how to apply Master Chang’s methodology. This allows Chinese medicine physicians to inherit Chinese medicine two-century splendid history under the support of scientific methodology. It is prospected that Chinese medicine can catch up with western medicine in the near future to promote world health together.
