The research on general education is one of the key focuses in current higher education reform. General education played a pivotal role in the cultivation of new type military medical staffs who need to adapt with future requirements. (1) general education lays a strong emphasis on the humanitarian consideration, sympathy, understanding, and empathic thinking to patients; (2) general education strengthens the military quality, virtue and general capability of cadets. However, domestic military medical universities hold a underdeveloped foundation both for theoretical research and curriculum practices. The current project focused on the exiting problems of general education in military medical universities, and how general education could adapt to the trend of social development and self-development of cadets; by using study methods including Literature research, theoretical research, questionnaire survey, analytic hierarchy process and expert interviews, the author put forward the idae of general education in military medical universities, analyzed influence factors of general education in military medical universities, proposed various elements such as general education philosophy, goal and system for curriculum, and practice strategies, for constructing general education curriculum model in military medical universities. The current manuscript is of seven parts:Part 1: Introduction. Description of background, significance, research contents and methods.Part 2: Study of basic concepts and theories. Though literature research, drawing a conclusion of contemporary research related with basic concepts and fundamental theories about general education, general education curriculum, and curriculum model. providing a clear definition of general education and proposing the idea and connotation of general education in military medical universities.Part 3: Study of the development status and trends of general education curriculum model. Briefly reviewed the development of general education curriculum in foreign countries represented by USA colleges, and its current status in China. Also, This part introduced the unique general education curriculum in The United States Military Academy at West Point, The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, The Harvard Medical School.Part 4: Theoretic research. Prediction that general education in military medical universities will be affected from various elements, deriving from current reality and future development; originating from students and extrinsic environment. The conclusion provids necessary theoretic basis for constructing general education curriculum model in military medical universities.Part 5: Investigating and consulting research. The degree of recognition in preliminary general education target and curriculum system was tested by using questionnaire from experts in relative fields. A total score of 8.5218 in goal system was generated by analytic hierarchy process (AHP), indicating a high rationality; the order of various targets by significance was obtained by weights; and suggestions on curriculum system from experts were collected by questionnaire and consultation. Thourh expert in-depth interviews, important points of view from senior experts about the development of general education in military medical universities were also received. The conclusion provided concrete evidence and support for constructing general education curriculum model in military medical universities.Part 6: General conception based on previous parts, a curriculum model characterized by "two-dimensional, multi-module, theme-oriented and self-motivated" was proposed, which includes: theoretic exploration, construction of a "two-dimensional" goal system, design of a"multi-module and theme-oriented" curriculum system, choice of a "self-motivated" practice strategy and necessary supporting system for general education in military medical universities.Part 7: Discussion and prospect Suggestio, Including of 3 major misunderstandings during the reform of general education curriculum, necessary intrinsic and extrinsic conditions for pushing forward the reform, the ideal modality on general education and the inadequacy of this researches.The current project was based on a research focus in higher education reform, based on the specific requirement of military staff cultivation, constructed an education philosophy adapted to the college development law, with precise definition of the goal of general education in military medical universities, provided certain contribution to enrich and perfect its theoretic system; the manuscript also discussed on the structure and conception of such curriculum system, with consideration of its form of organization, practice principle, educational methods and supporting system; provided valuable instruction on the practice of general education in military medical universities.
