Being a high efficient and clean energy, petroleum is very important to the national economic development. In the last few years, the demand for petroleum has been sharply increased in China, while the conflict between supply and demand becomes more obvious than ever before . The capability of petroleum supply can not meet the need of development in China. Thus, the subject how to provide guarantee for a stable and safe oil supply for the national demand becomes necessary and substantial. But the crucial issue for a sustainable development of the national oil industry depends on the sustainable development of the oil resources and relevant oil exploration enterprises.The paper studies the relationship between resources industry and sustainable development, and emphasizes particularly on the sustainable development of petroleum exploitation industry which is based on the sustainable petroleum resources. It also provides integrated evaluation on the sustainable development ability of the Chinese petroleum resources, and it mainly concentrates on the countermeasures how to best use of the oil resources with difficulties in exploitation , and how to develop import channels and intensively use overseas oil resources with analysis on the experiences and inspirations on sustainable development from foreign oil companies.The paper stresses the strategic measures of sustainable development of petroleum exploitation industry in China in terms of management, cost, science and technology and human resources, etc. The study has obtained the following innovative achievements:1. Based on the combination of macroscopical and microcosmic analysis, in accordance with the point of sustainable development of resources and enterprise, the paper provided countermeasures and advice for petroleum exploitation industry sustainable development.
