Tunable lasers have their predominant advantages comparing with the fixed wavelength laser- they can output multiple wavelengths in a set of laser system, so as to improve the practicability of laser source, reduce the cost and make the system more compact. Tunable broadband light source has been applied for kinds of important fields, such as optical communication, photodynamic, optical computing, environmental monitoring and surveillance, optical coherence tomography, laser remote sensing technique, laser radar and spectroscopy. So scientists and engineers all over the world are always focusing on the researches in tunable laser. With rapid development, tunable laser technique becomes one of the most active aspects in laser technique.The paper is based on the experiment of all solid state tunable Ti: sapphire laser. After we have achieved the highest power and widest tuning range of all-solid-state Ti: sapphire laser and dual-wavelength Ti: sapphire laser in the domestic fields, we carried out the Ti: sapphire laser pumped vertical external cavity surface emitting laser (VECSEL) to achieve near infrared tunable semiconductor laser; Ti: sapphire laser pumped periodically polarized crystal to achieve broadband near-infrared laser; 1064nm laser end-pumped nonlinear to achieve middle-infrared laser. Meanwhile we studied the feasibility of generating Terra Hertz source by using dual-wavelength Ti: sapphire laser. It is the first time to report the Ti: sapphire laser pumped VECSEL and periodically polarized crystal in this field and the first time to report the 1064nm laser end-pumped nonlinear crystal to achieve the output of middle-infrared continuous wavelength laser in the domestic field.The main achievements in this thesis are shown as below:1. Accomplish the highest power and widest tuning range of the Ti: sapphire laser and dual-wavelength Ti: sapphire laser in the domestic fields.2. First time to report Ti: sapphire laser pumped VECSEL to output near infrared semiconductor laser.3. First time to report Ti: sapphire laser pumped periodically polarized crystal to realize near infrared broadband optical parametric oscillator.4. First time to accomplish 1064nm laser end-pumped nonlinear crystal to output continuous wave middle infrared laser.
