Collation of Historical Records is not only an important part in the documentary research of this book, but also a significant elementary work for the whole study of Historical Records. Through the collection of many related materials, with the combination of knowledge on collation, edition study, Chinese language history and cultural history, etc., the author of this dissertation centers upon Zhong Hua Shu Ju's Revised Edition , which is famed as "not only a rare book of thousands of years, but also an important milestone in the development of collation on Historical Records' edition ", and has offered a comparatively thorough collation of Historical Records from the perspective of ancient documents study.This dissertation covers four chapters .Chapter One entitled "Comparative revision on Zhong Hua Shu Ju's Edition and Jin Lin Shu Ju's Edition". Through the analysis of the limitations in Jin Lin Shu Ju's Edition which is the base of Zhong Hua Shu Ju's Edition , and the contrast of the two Editions mentioned above ,the author points out over 400 differences and demonstrates lots of printing errors and wrong revisions in the Revised Edition. Chapter Two's title is "Comparative study on the Revised Edition and Zhang Wen Hu's Zha Ji ". Through the one-by-one analysis of Zhang Wen Hu's 8957 revision notes (including new additions) in Zha Ji, which are the main basis of revision work done by Revised Edition, this part explores the concrete details of Revised Edition's absorption on Zhang Wen Hu's Zha Ji, especially those mistakes in making choices. Chapter Three is "Examples of the mistakes in collation of Revised Edition ".In this part, through the analysis on the differences of different editions, overlook of previous study and new scientific research achievements, the author discusses the drawbacks of collation in Revised Edition with many examples. With the title " Examples of the drawbacks of punctuations in Revised Edition ",Chapter Four lists some punctuation mistakes found by other scholars and the author himself in Revised Edition from the perspectives of proper nouns, punctuations with relation to quotation marks, vocabularies, etc.Generally speaking, there are many drawbacks in Revised Edition of Historical Records. Therefore, it is definitely necessary for scholars to absorb the new academic achievements abundantly under the guidance of collating theory of ancient documents and scientific methods, and to make both grand and profound exploration on the text of Historical Records. It is necessary not only for further development of Historical Records'1 study in new century, but also for the enrichment of basic theory on ancient documents, especially the consummation of theory on collation. In 21th century , new text of Historical Records which represents contemporary academic level will be more welcome by the academic circle.
