There is a natural affinity between life and social practices. Life is the source of social practices and social practices are manifestations of life. As a sort of social practice which fosters persons with ability, education has much closer relation with life. Life is the origin of education and education is one of existential fashions of life. However, it is life that is ignored by society and disregarded by education.Recently, these phenomena have been attended. For the sake of turning the scale, some local education authorities definitely advance that elementary and middle schools put life education in practice. For example, The Education Department of Liaoning Province appealed all elementary and middle schools in Liaoning Province to put life education in practice and requested them to treat curriculum of Life Education as an important normal curriculum on Dec. 23th, 2004; Shanghai Municipal Committee of Scientific and Technical Education Work of CCP and Shanghai Municipal Education Commission promulgated together one guideline in mid-June, 2005 and tried to popularize life education in elementary and middle schools in Shanghai.Then, what is life education? What relations are there between life education and safety education, health education, mental health education, AIDS-prevented education, etc.? What relations are there between life education and humanism education, scientific education? Does life education have any theoretical basis? What does life education pursue? What are manifestations of life education? Those questions would be occurred when people see the word of life education and to ask those questions needs to study theories of life education. In succession, people perhaps consider these questions: how do schools construct the curriculum of life education? how do schools organize the classroom teaching of life education? how do schools select and educate teachers of life education? how do schools evaluate effect of life education? Asking those questions needs exploring practices of life education.The dissertation includes two parts: theories of life education and practices of life education. Contents on theories of life education are as follows:In the first chapter, the dissertation firstly analyzes definition of life, some different definitions of life education in China and other countries and background based on which the mainland advances life education. Based on these analyses, the dissertation indicates that life education is a kind of education which helps students to understand life, to enjoy life, to respect life and to create values of life by adding educational contents on life. Subsequently, the dissertation analyzes relations between life education and safety education, healthy education, mentality healthy education, AIDS-prevented education, etc. and relations between life education and humanism education, scientific education.After nailing down the essence of life education, in the chapter 2, the dissertation studies the theoretical bases of life education which include Life Philosophy, Existentialism, Humanism Psychology and Biotethics.
