Relation between the matriculation and the schooling, is a basic theoretic and practical issue, which needs studying urgently in China and all over the world. It is a hard issue which is faced for the worldwide reform of matriculation. It not only involves with the reform of matriculation, but also with the reform of higher education and the high school education, even of the whole elementary education. And it involves with whether the education can produce more talents or not as soon as possible. Furthermore, it will influence the national rejuvenation of China in 21st' Century.Relation between the matriculation and the schooling, logically, includes two issues. One is to the higher education, the other is to the high school education. This paper focuses on "the relation", grasps the characteristics of the matriculation system, uses the education and exam theories as weapons, studies the interactive relation between them from the perspective of historic, pedagogy and exam sociology, comparison, puts forward my own viewpoints, and from above, thinkings on reform of the matriculation system are appeared.Besides introduction and ending, this paper has four chapters. Each chapter discusses the same titles according to the different perspective. Respectively, they are about the historical study, the basic theory study, the applied theory study and the abroad comparison study.The part of historic study discusses the relation between the matriculation system and the schooling in Imperial Examination Times, the Min-guo Times, the People's Republic of China, The study tells us: the selective examination in different times is double-function. The mechanism of this function, actively speaking, it functions by "what is tested leads to what is taught and learned", or strictly speaking, it does by "the scientific degree of the criterion of the college enrollment and entrance exam". Inactively speaking, it functions by "which is not tested leads what isn't taught and learned", or strictly speaking, it does by "the shortcomings of the criterion". As for the form of the enrollment and exam, it connects with the criterion, and serves the criterion. The national uniform exam in history plays an important part in improving the school education level, especially the high school education, but it also brings out much abuse for the Higher Education, further, it is unbeneficial to the personality development in high schooling. Single matriculation also brings out two sides. The merit is its independence and flexibility, the defect isit is often unbeneficial to the high schooling, and the registration for the students. As to the abolishment of the matriculation, it will make the education out of control. History indicates the correct way is the reform, especially the criterion reform.The part of basic theory study carries on in turns of the purpose, the course, the results. In terms of the purpose, the purpose of the matriculation needs to fit the requirement of both the higher education and the high school education's purpose, in order to avoid the matriculation system to be only fit for the former but unfit for the high school education, or only fit for the latter but unfit to the variety of the former. Anyway, whenever the quality and quantity of the higher education is not equal to which of the high school education, the conflicts will be forever among the three purposes. In terms of the course, the matriculation is a selective course and a course of carrying on for its purpose. If we systematically analyze the course of the matriculation system, it consists of four synthetic factors: college, senior students, criterion, means. The interaction among the four factors forms the basic laws of the course of matriculation, i.e., characteristic of. two-side effects, guidance characteristic, characteristic of. Competition. According to the laws, the principles of characteristic of giving consideration to two things and characteristic of feasibility are summarized.
