Mao Zedong is a Marxism sociologist. He employed the principal Marxism theories to analyze and study the Chinese society, which reflected a clear sociological thought. His scientific and successful social practice has set up a quintessence for research. He's not a scholar focusing on studying sociology, however, his theory and thoughts are superior to professional sociologists. He's a sociological theoretician and practician emphasizing on social practice and resolving the practical social problems.Mao's sociological thought has distinguished features. He analyzed the structure of the Chinese society from the perspective of class; he treated the social conflicts from the angle of contradiction and integration; his ideal thought on social development encountered the reality; his truth-seeking and down-to-earth thought on social surveys help him scientifically analyze the society, draw right conclusion and make the invincible strategies for revolution and social construction. He viewed the Chinese society, social movement, social structure, and social stratification with his own unique perspective. Marxist sociology was successfully used in his understanding, analyzing and studying the real Chinese society. A series of major and complex social problems were resolved in the Chinese revolution and socialist constructionThe sociological thought of Mao Zedong, with its distinguished features, systematic and rich contents, has made great contribution to the sinicication of Marxist sociology and the development of sociology itself. It asserts itself an importance place in the development history of Marxist sociology. It also guides the building of Chinese sociology as well as the research on social development and social problems in the new era.If the Chinese sociology only imitates, or copy sociological theories and methods from other countries or states with its own theory as the guidance, the development of sociology will not have a solid academic, theoretic and social foundation. Thus the discipline functions of sociology served as studying and social problem-solving will never be realized.Today, as we are building the socialism harmonious society, probing into the sociological thought of Mao Zedong is of great significance. First of all, it can help us study and understand Mao's perspective and methods on social problems in China. When facing the sophisticated practical social problems, we can appropriately reason, comment and judge. Secondly, it can positively push forward the building of sociology as a discipline. It's important to assert the role of Mao's sociological thought in the development history of Chinese sociology as well as Marxist sociology and recognize the contribution so that Mao's sociological theories and methods can return to noumenon of sociology. Mao Zedong was a great practitioner of Chinese society and China's revolution as well as a great theorist of sociology. His thorough social practice provide rich theories, thoughts and practical guidance for the development of Chinese sociology. It has also made indelible contribution to the sinicization of Marxist sociology.
