"The Great Cultural Revolution"has received widespread attention at home and abroad in connection with a wide range of long duration, complicated process and profound impacts. Since the late-1970s, during 30 years, many experts and scholars have carried on a great deal of difficult studies in this field, and have made certain progresses. Under current era and academic background, we should re-organize, analyze and summarize the existing achievements systematicaly and comprehensively from historical perspective. It has not only very important academic value to make further studies, but also can unify our thinking and educate the broad masses of Party members, the cadre and the populace. Then, we will deeply understood Party's lines, principles and policies in new time, will correctly grasp the basic issue that is"what is socialism and how to build socialism,"thus will further deepen the understanding of constructing road of socialism with Chinese characteristic. In this sense, the research has strong practical significance.As a summary, this thesis firstly comprehensively collects and classifiably reorganizes relevant literature, books, and articles on the history of"the Great Cultural Revolution"in 30 years, and then establish bibliographic index about this history researches. Next, it carries out systematically classification and commentary on these main achievements according to the requirements of historiography's basic framework, in order to grasp the train of its overall development and understand its present situation and development trends.In the writing process, the thesis adopts this kind of analysis framework with a combination of vertical sub-phases and horizontal special subjects. The first chapter has divided 30 years'researches of"the Great Cultural Revolution"into three periods, which is stage of making a difficult start, stage of the first study peak, and stage of sustained development in"tranquil". It carries out classification introduction and brief narration separately on each period's main achievement, and summarizes their respective characteristics combined with relevant historical background and time features. Based on these, we can not only get a basic understanding about the train of researches development on"the Great Cultural Revolution", but also can grasp each period's research characteristic, insufficiency and the tendency quite clearly. Furthermore, this chapter makes quite systematic classification of review on each stage's important topics and case studies, such as big-character poster in"the Great Cultural Revolution", educational revolution, the Revolutionary Committee,"three supports-two military affairs", new historical methods, and so on. From these studies, we may thoroughly grasp present situation and development trends of some special subjects.The second chapter mainly carries on the commentary about origin issue of"the Great Cultural Revolution"including three stages: preliminary development, academic normalization, and thorough discussion. From these studies, we may promptly summarize historians'certain achievements about macroscopic analysis and microscopic exploration on origin of"the Great Cultural Revolution"for 30 years, and we may also quiet clearly find out some existing insufficiencies which are helpful to thorough discussion on this issue.The third chapter involves scholars'research situations on summary of"the Great Cultural Revolution", such as the concept, the nature, the stages, the experience, and so on. All these questions are indispensable important components in the history research. To explore these issues thoroughly, it may deepen our understanding on connotation, extension and other issues of"the Great Cultural Revolution"and make it more objectively and accurately. Then, it will expand our research vision and promote the entire academic level of study about it.The fourth chapter inspects the academic circle's researches on the mass organization and mass movement during"the Great Cultural Revolution". These studies involve more microscopic but more complex social levels. From thorough exploration on the lower mass organizations and mass movements in terms of"the Great Cultural Revolution", we find that it is a reflection of study orientation which is about social history and regional history in the entire historical development presently. It has a strong forward-looking academic significance to systematically summarize the academic circle's researches achievement, experiences, insufficiencies as well as the development trends in this area, and promote development of"the Great Cultural Revolution"towards direction of microscopic history, regional history, and social history. This is the major means to improve the whole research level and overcome limitations such as a serious shortage of core files and historical data.The paper has made brief but relatively independent, target-oriented sum-up after every chapter, so the conclusion part doesn't do excessive expansions. It merely emphasizes research's complex, diversified characteristics on history of"the Great Cultural Revolution", and points out this paper's main insufficiencies, the supplement and improvement need.We should firmly believe that in the history research on"the Great Cultural Revolution", although there are also some restrictions from subjective and objective factors, there are also various difficulties including historical data's sources, research ideas and methods, academic exchanges and dialogue and so on, the studies will certainly make unceasingly progress with the lapse of time and scholars'long-term and difficult endeavors.
