Background.Stevens-Johnson Syndrome is a disease of skin and mucous membranes.Fas-FasL pathway is an important way to activate apoptosis, and highly expressed in acute phase skin lesions of SIS.Purpose:To investigate the expression level of Fas-FasL in conjunctiva tissue of chronic phase SJS patients, and sFas-sFasL level in the patients' serum. Methods:This study was divided into two parts.PartⅠ:Conjunctiva tissue was obtained during AMT operation,5μm cryostat sectioned. The expression of Fas-FasL in conjunctiva was detected by direct immunofluorescence.PartⅡ:sFas and sFasL level in serum is evaluated by ELISA method. Results:PartⅠ:The expression of Fas-FasL appeared normal level, comparing to normal human conjunctiva.PartⅡ:The level of serum sFas-sFasL of SJS patients showed no significant deviant from control group. Conclusions:This investigation suggests that the expression of Fas-FasL in chronic phase SJS patients had no significant difference with control group. The role of Fas-FasL pathway was not so important as in acute phase of SJS.
