| A multi-center, randomized single-blind method was used to verify the efficacy of acupuncturing Sifeng points for infantile malnutrition. All 222 patients in four centers were divided into treatment group and control group randomly, 212 accomplished and 10 missing. Treatment group gave acupuncture in Sifeng points, 1 time a week and total 4 weeks. Control group treated with YiQi JianPi KouFuYe 10ml, 2 times a day for 4 weeks. Symptom-and-sign scale, Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), pre-albumin (PA), hemoglobin (Hb) and red blood cell count (RBC) were used to evaluate the clinical efficacy. The level from baseline of the treatment group was similar to that of the control (P>0.05) in both intention-to-treat analysis (ITT) and pre-protocol (PP). At the end point, the effective rate of treatment group was 91.8%, and the effective rate of the control group was 66.1%. There was significant defference between the two groups (P<0.01). The total symptom-and-sign scores of two groups had significant defferences after treatment 2 weeks (P<0.05) and 3 weeks (P<0.01) , suggesting treatment group was better than control group. In improving dominating symptoms, treatment group was more obvious, especiacally in promoting appetite.
