This thesis was composed of four correlative parts.1. The development of SY series blending silicone elastomers;2. Study on physical properties and color stability of pigment-elastomer complex;3. Evaluation on biocompatibility of pigment-elastomer complex;4. Fabrication of two maxillofacial prostheses applied the pigment-elastomer complex mentioned above. In the first part, three types of RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) silicone elastomer named as A, B, C were chosen as the blending components and their vulcanizing time, physical properties were evaluated respectively. Pilot study also had been done to develop series of compound silicone elastomers that had different hardness scores. The results were shown as below:1. The vulcanizing times of A,B and C were all nearly 30min at the temperature of 80 C, which meant that any two of them can realize co- vulcanization;2. The physical properties of these three elastomer varied notablely especially in Shore A hardness. This made the series of blending silicone elastomer that had different hardness scores realizable;3. Blending silicone elastomer composed of A and C can realize the Shore A hardness of 18, 20, 22 at different blend ratios;4. Blending silicone elastomer composed of A and B can realize the Shore A hardness of 26, 28, 30 at different blend ratios. The pigment-elastomer (SY-1) complex should possess not only good physical properties but also color stability to endure the effect of environment. In order to evaluate those characters of the pigment-elastomer complex, experiments were carried out and the results were:1. There was no significant difference in physical properties between the pigment-elastomer complex and silicone elastomer itself, which meant thepigments wouldn't lower the physical properties of the pigment-elastomer complex;2. The pigments wouldn't increase the possibility of absorbing C.albicans on the surface because the pigment-elastomer complex had same adsorbability as the controlling group (SY-1);3. Vulcanizing temperature didn't have effect on the color stability of the pigment-elastomer complex because after vulcanization under 80 C and room temperature, the color change wasn't vision detectable (A E=0.3 ).Before the clinical application, a series of experiments should be done to determine the biocompatibility of the pigment-elastomer complex. So the third part of this thesis was arranged and the results showed that the pigment-elastomer complex had good biocompatibility and was suitable for restoration of maxillofacial soft tissue defect. The final target of these series of study was to apply the pigment-elastomer complex to clinical use. Two maxillofacial prostheses were fabricated applied the pigment-elastomer complex and the two patients were all satisfied with the newly made prostheses.
