In the first 24 years of its existence, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) has emerged to become the most common major medical intervention of coronary heart disease. However, restenosis is an important limitation of efficacy of this method. It occurs in 30% to 50% of patients within 3/6 months of the procedure and accounts for significant health care expenditures. The prevention and cure of restenosis have become a keen spot in the research of cardiology. To date, pathomechanism of the restenosis is not clear. There were many attempts to prevent restenosis based on the pathophysiology, but so far no successful method has been found. The current situation and problem about the investigation of restenosis at home and abroad is summarized and the theory of it in TCM is discussed in the paper. On reviewing its situation in clinical and pharmacologic investigation, We speculate injection of Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae oil ( E Zhu You ) may be used in the treatment of restenosis .In order to test the possibility we designed the topic.endothelial denudation of the left common carotid artery in male Sague-Dawley rats was performed with 2F PTCA balloon catheter. Rats were divided into three groups randomly :sham- operation group, model group and E Zhu You Group(n=8). 3 days before ballooon injury until the time to be killed, E Zhu You group rats were treated with intraperitoneal injection of Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae oil (O.lg/lOml,4Omg/kgld) while the other two groups with saline at the same dosage. We therefore used the well-characterized and reproducible rat model to examine the effects and mechanisms of injection of Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae oil on the arterial response to balloon injury. I. The effects of Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae oil injection on neointimal formation and vascular remodeling after arterial injury. Objective To investigate the effect of Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae oil injection on the intimal hyperplasia and vascular remodeling after arterial injury. Methods The rats were killed at 14 days after inj ury. Cross-sections stained with hematoxylin-eosin from the injuried segments were processed for histological and morphological study by computer-assisted picture analysis system. Results 14 days after balloon injury ,partial disruption of the IEL and media was found, as well intirnal hyperplasia and lumen stenosis.Lumen area,EEL perimeter,IEL perimeter of model group were decreased significantly (P<0.0l) than those of sham-operation group.Compared with model group, maxiinal intimal thickness, neointima area of E Zhu You group were decreased significantly (P<0.0 1 )while were not difference with those of the sham-operation group (P>0.05) . Lumen area,EEL perimeter,IEL perimeter increased markedly (P<0.0 1) up to that of the sham-operation group (P>0.05) Conclusions Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae oil injection is effective on restenosis after arterial injury by inhibiting neointimal fonnation and constrictive vascular remodeling. 2. The effects of Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae oil injection on collagen types I and III after arterial injury. Objective To investigate the changes of collagen types I and Ill after arterial injury and the effect of Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae oil injection on them. Methods The rats were killed at 14 days after injury. Cross-sections stained with picrosirius red from the injuried segments were proce...
