Objective: We have comprehensively reviewed on the literatures of the use ofHegu acupoint in acupuncture treatment, so as to explore its application principles,and hence provide literature evidence for the theory "Hegu treating the diseases inorofacial locations" as well as the phenomenon of "certain meridian points beingdiagnostically and therapeutically relevant to multiple viscera".Also, viasummarization of Hegu compatibility rules, we intend to provide guidance andimplications for the related clinical treatment and research. rules and.Methods: Combining the methods of literature review and statistics analysis, toanalyse Hegu acupoint application principles and compatibility features.Results: In the related ancient literatures, we have found1322articles, of which668items discussed the use of Hegu point in the treatment of65kinds of orafacialdiseases, and654items involving the use of Hegu point in treating78kinds ofvisceral system diseases. In the related modern clinical researches, we have retrieved1479references, of which736articles discussed the use of Hegu point in treating the35kinds of orofacial diseases, and743articles on the use of Hegu in treating93kinds of viscera system disorders.The wide range of therapeutic effects of Hegu not only reveals that the theory of" Hegu treating the diseases in orafacial locations " has a solid theoretical basis andrich clinical application foundation, but also shows that Hegu can be widely applied totreating various kinds of related diseases, covering internal medicine, surgery,gynecology, pediatrics, and the treatment of other diseases related to limb andcollateral channels.Conclusion: First, the "Hegu treating the diseases in orofacial locations" theory is based on clinical practice, and reveals the close link of Hegu point with orofaciallocation. Second, Hegu is widely used in multi-Zang and Fu organ system disorders,reflecting a close contact between one meridian acupoint and various correspondingviscera, especially their relevant tissue and mental diseases.
