Since the West development stratagem has been devised, the highways in the mountainous area have been developed rapidly. To construct high grade road in the mountainous area will meet the high filled embankment inevitably, the high filled embankment has become one main structure form of the roadbed.The highways in the mountainous area have been developed before ten years in our country, but the stability of the high filled embankment has not been solved for these years, and in the present criterions, this question has been involved rarely. In the constructed and the constructing highways, the high filled embankment has been destroyed in different degree, which brought great loss to country. According to this case, height attention has been set to the stability of the high filled embankment.There are many reasons that arouse the wreck of the high filled embankment. In all the reasons, besides the reason of the external factors that the geological conditions and environment conditions are changeful, the following reason is a main one that induces the wreck of the high filled embankment, which includes two factors: the lack of the acquaintance to the wreck mechanism and the faultiness of the stability design method. According to the wreck phenomenon, the paper uses the nonlinear elastic finite element method to analyze the wreck and deflection character of the embankment under the representative groundsill and physiognomy, and educes the effect rule of the main factors to the wreck and deflection of the embankment. Through the test in the laboratory, the study analyzes the seepage character of the water in the embankment slope. The paper analyzes the effect of the water seepage to the embankment stability through using the formers research fruit, and brings forward the stability calculation method, in the method the water seepage has been thought. On the bases of the summarization of the present stability account method, the paper gets applied calculation method of the embankment stability. Through the tests in the building sites and in laboratory, the paper gets appropriate testing methods of the parameters to the filled earth of embankment; through comparative analyzing and pilot calculation, the paper gets the advices of the safety factor of stability.This paper discusses the issue as followed factors: the wreck mechanism, the stability account method, the testing methods of the filled soil parameters, the stability and safety factor value, the criterion to control settlement which occurs when the construction is over, the construction control. In conclusion, the paper put forward the theory and method of high filled embankment stability design in the mountainous area, which can be put into practice. This study is significant to the construction of high filled embankment.
