Fuzzy spatiotemporal data management has received much attention since increasing fuzzy spatiotemporal data applications have shown urgent requirements. Although a considerable amount of efforts have been proposed to fuzzy extensions of spatiotemporal data, their studies are based on traditional databases. The traditional databases impose strict restrictions on structure and data types on spatiotemporal data, which limits the effectiveness of storing and quering fuzzy spatiotemporal data.As the next generation of the Web language, XML has been the de-facto standard of representing, exchanging, and querying the information over the Web. Therefore, studies on fuzzy spatiotemporal data based on XML seem to become a new research direction. However, current efforts have mainly focused on the problems of temporal XML. spatial XML, spatiotemporal XML. and fuzzy XML. Less research has been done in the corresponding studies on fuzzy spatiotemporal data based on XML.To this end, concerning on the problems of representing, reasoning, and querying fuzzy spatiotemporal data, in this dissertation, a fuzzy spatiotemporal data model based on XML is proposed. On the basis of the fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data model, topological relations of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data, inconsistencies of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML documents, and queries of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data are investigated. The experimental results show that our approaches are correctness, validity, and effectiveness. On the other hand, the comparative studies on corresponding approaches demonstrate that our approaches have better expressions and performances. The innovative contributions are summarized as follows:(1) After investigation of fuzzy spatiotemporal topological semantics, a novel fuzzy spatiotemporal data model based on XML is proposed. On the basis of the fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data model, XML Schema of fuzzy spatiotemporal data is extended. Then our model is applied in meteorological events, and how to use our model to record and query fuzzy spatiotemporal data is studied. Finally, comparative studies on corresponding approaches from the querying point of view demonstrate that our proposed model has better expressions and performances, and further demonstrate the correctness and validity of our model as well.(2) On the basis of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data model, topological relations of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data are studied, containing transformation of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data model trees and twig matching of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of determining topological relations of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data based on the fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data model.(3) Concerning on inconsistencies of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML documents, algorithms for fixing inconsistencies of fuzzy spatiotemporal XML documents caused by updating, inserting, and deleting operations are proposed followed by the corresponding examples. Furthermore, several characteristics of change operations on fuzzy spatiotemporal XML documents are studied. Finally, performances of fixing inconsistency time of updating, inserting, and deleting operations are evaluated based on the fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data model.(4) The problems of querying fuzzy spatiotemporal XML data using XQuery are studied. After investigating the architecture of querying fuzzy spatiotemporal data using XQuery, fuzzy spatiotemporal extensions to XQuery are studied. In succession, capabilities of fuzzy spatiotemporal queries are discussed. Subsequently, query examples from the application domain are presented. Evaluations of querying examples of fuzzy spatiotemporal predicates, fuzzy spatiotemporal modifiers, and fuzzy spatiotemporal comparators demonstrate the correctness and validity of querying fuzzy spatiotemporal data using the extended XQuery. Finally, the comparative studies from the querying point of view show the performance advantages of querying fuzzy sptiotemporal data using the extended XQuery, which also further demonstrate the validity of querying fuzzy sptiotemporal data using the extended XQuery.
