The present study focuses on the lexical words of Bouyei language in Bajie, an area that was considered to be the main dialect area. To study the morphology of Bouyei, we combined the methods of form class description, morphology theories and Generative Lexicon Theory, which may have certain academic value.Seven Chapters are included in the paper:Chaper 1, Introduction. Firstly the status of Bouyei people and their language is briefed. Then the overview of morphological study on Bouyei and Zhuang languages is provided. Finally, reasons and purposes of current study, language materials, research methods, innovations and difficulties are also introduced.Chapter 2, Theories and methods of morphological studies. Related morphological terminologies are defined, such as morpheme, word, phrase. The scope of Bouyei morphology, its basic unit and classification are also confirmed.Chapter 3, The morphology of derivative words. Firstly, affixes and classifiers in the derivative words are defined. Two types of affixes are classified: the prefix(included the righteous affix and the finite field affix)and the suffix. Then the word-formation of derivative words is described using form class method in the perspective of its meanings and functions. Basic functions of affixes are also generalized. Finally the laws of word-formation of derivative words in Bouyei language are summarized.Chapter 4, The morphology of compound words. The word structure is analyzed using the form class method. The interior morphology of the semantic word-formation is also discussed based on the Generative Lexicon Theory. Then the laws of word-formation in semantic structure are concluded.Chapter 5, The morphology of overlapping words. We use the form class method to describe the word structure in that there are various kinds of overlapping words. Basic structures are analyzed using the method of semantic analysis then the laws of word-formation of overlapping words are summarized.Chapter 6, The morphology of loanwords. There are two kinds of loanwords in Bouyei: early Chinese and modern Chinese. In early Chinese loanwords, the patterns and features of word-formation of derivative words and compound words are analyzed. In modern Chinese loanwords, three types of word-formation patterns are explored: the borrowing of meaning, the direct borrowing of both sound and meaning, and the mixed borrowing of sound and meaning. We use the same method as above to describe the morphology of loanwords and the laws are summarized.Chapter 7, Conclusion. Conclusions are made on the structures and rules of Bouyei morphology. Shortages and further studies are also discussed.
