Leptospirosis is a worldwide zooanthroponosis that is common in waterlogging areas and rice paddies. China is one of the widely spread area of this disease. Though the incidence of leptospirosis has declined in recent years, it is the focus one of flood disaster prevention and control of infectious diseases. Many scholars have been committed to the research of leptospirosis and the progress has been achieved. However, the real pathogenesis of L.interrogans remains unknown. So far, no any typical exotoxin of L.interrogans has been found. Cytotoxic factor, cell pathogenic materials and hemolysin are difficult to explain the characteristics in the disease process and infection-induced pathological changes. The late 1980s and early 1990s, weak toxicity of lipopolysaccharide of Leptospira was found. The content and toxicity of lipopolyssachride from L.interrogans are similar to those from L.biflexa, which suggest L.interrogans must adhere or invade cells before endotoxin play a role. In vitro experiments have found that saprophytic Leptospira patocâ… strain did not adhere cells and all the tested L.interrogans...
