The Applied Basic Study On Laser Welding Of Titanium In Dentistry

To explore the possibility and proper parameters of laser welding of titanium in dentistry ,this paper adopted home-made Nd: YAG laser welding apparatus to weld pure titanium and titanium alloys and did a series of researches into the properties of titanium laser welds for clinical use.1. The study on mechanical properties of laser welds of titanium in dentistryTo explore the prime parameters for laser welding of titanium and the mechanical properties of laser welds of titanium, home-made Nd : YAG laser welding apparatus was used to weld pure titanium and Ti-6A1-4V under lamp voltage of 550,600,650,700,750, 800V. Instron universal testing machine was adopted to measure the tensile loads,0.2% yield loads and absolute elongation,the cross section of the fractured surface was observed under SEM and Vickers microhard-ness values at welding area were measured and compared to those outside the heat—affected zone. The results showed that Ti-6A1-4V was stronger than pure titanium. At lamp voltage of 700V,there was no significant difference between tensile load of pure titanium laser welds and those of the original material. At lamp voltage of 750V,tensile loads of pure titanium and Ti-6A1-4V laser welds made no statistic difference from those of the original materials, but the yield load of TA2 was bigger than that of the original material.
