Objective To investigate the value and possibility of sternomastoid muscle island flap pedicled with sternomastoid arterial branches of superior thyroid artery on head and neck reconstruction and to study the characteristic of cervical node metastasis in the head and neck squamous carcinoma. Methods The following anatomic measurement were done simultaneously for 8 corpses and 131 patients with head and neck tumor in neck dissection: The distance of sterno-vertex to mastoidale for sternomastoid muscle, the point accessory nerve going out the posterior edge of sternocleidomastoid muscle to clavicular midpoint and to sternoclavicular articulation , The distance of accessory nerve and the great auricular nerve going out the posterior edge of sternocleidomastoid muscle, the point accessory nerve enter trapezius muscle to clavicular midpoint.the adjacent between accessory nerve and sternomastoid arterial branches of superior thyroid artery. The initiation point and diameter of superior thyroid artery and sternomastoid arterial branches , The initiation point distance between superior thyroid artery to sternomastoid arterial branches . The distance between the initiation point of sternomastoid arterial branches to the point of sternomastoid arterial branches enter the muscle. 2ml Methylene Blue solution was injected into the...
