Chronic urticaria is an allergic inflammatory skin disease characterized by short-lived itching swellings at skin, mouth, and genitalia due to transient leakage of plasma from small blood vessels into the surrounding connective tissue. As the patients often experience obvious itch, physical and mental health of patients with chronic urticaria are greatly affected. Its etiology and pathogenesis is complicated and still not clarified completely. In this study, we developed a specific questionnaire for investigating the health-related quality of life in patients with chronic urticaria and made use of it in clinical practice. We also investigated the mRNA expression levels of Th2 cytokine receptors, chemokine receptors and cysteinyl leukotriene receptor in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) from the patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU). And then, we observed the effects of mizolastine, levoceterizine and oxymatrine on those upregulated expressed receptors in vitro, to elucidate the possible anti-inflammatory mechanisms of these medicines in treating CIU. So the study was divided into three parts.Part â… :A Preliminary Study on the Quality of Life in Patients with Different Kinds of Chronic UrticariaBackground Few articles are available about chronic urticaria (CU) impact on patients' quality of life (QoL).Objective To develop a questionnaire suitable to survey the QoL of urticaria patients in China and to evaluate the QoL in different kinds of chronic urticaria patients. Methods A disease-specific questionnaire was designed by us. One hundred and eleven patients with different kinds of chronic urticaria patients was evaluated. The diagnoses were made based on a detailed history and physical examination. Results One hundred and eleven patients completed the questionnaire(including chronic idiopathic Urticaria, cold Urticaria, dermographism, cholinergic Urticaria and urticarial vasculitis). QoL scores in these patients went down in various degree,...
