| Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) , an obligate intracellular bacterium, is a major human pathogen responsible for many diseases, such as 1)trachoma,which is the leading cause of blindness in the world, 2) inclusive conjunctivitis, 3) neonatal pneumonia, 4)non-gonococcal urethritis in man, 5) cerricitis and salpingitis in woman, which may cause infertility, 6)lymphogranuloma venereum and 7) Reiter's syndrome . It is well known that most pathogenic microorganisms initiate infections by their adhering to host cells. Recently, two proteins associated with the extracellular elementary body of Ct have been found able to bind to eukaryotic cell memberane. These proteins are of particular interest since they may take an important role in pathogenesis of Ct, and be a potential vaccine candidate of the pathogen. The genome DNA of Ct aervor L2 was isolated by stardard method, and digested with PstI and XbaI to release the 670bp fragment encoding the 18KDa protein. The 670bpfragment was then recovered by argarose gel... |
