Hantavirus is the causative agent of HFRS. Some biological properties of the virus including Virulence, infectivity and antigenicity have great influence on the pathogenesis of the disease. The severity of HFRS differs caused by different hantaviruses with different virulence and antigenicity. It has been recognized that the hantavirus has a segmented, single-stranded RNA genome, and the virus with such a genomic structure liably undergo genetic changes. Because of genetic changes, the viral structure proteins may be altered, which may cause the antigenicity and virulence of the virus changed.
