| Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the central nervous system (CNS) diseases with high disabled rate, which is still lack of effective method in clinical treatment. Recently, many researches have indicated that transplantion of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) or olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) can enhanc axonal sprouting and promote functional recovery to animals with spinal cord injury. BMSCs or OECs has special biological character respectively which is the foundation of BMSCs or OECs repair SCI, but this special biological character determined that BMSCs or OECs is not able to overall treat with the complicated central inhibiting glial environment after SCI. Combined compatible cell types transplantation may make up the defect of solitary cell type and gain notable repair effect. On account of above reason, we grafted both of BMSCs and OECs into the completely transected spinal cord of rat for the first time, taking the advantage of BMSCs which have multidirection differentiated potential that can provide multiplicity of grafted cells and can differentiate into nerve cell to recruitment or substitute damaged neurocyte; and also taking the advantage of OECs which can induce neural axon regeneration, restrain formation of glial scar, secret neurotrophic factors to improve local microenvironment. Combined transplantation might utilize the mutual effect of BMSCs and OECs, integration their dominance, make up for each other's deficiencies, and improve structurally and functionally the result of SCI repair. This method might provide more effective approach to SCI repair. We did not find any same report after consult the domestics and overseas literature. Because BMSCs can be easily obtained, related no immunologic rejection and ethical problem, and OECs can also be obtained... |
