| To investigate neuroprotective effect on neurons and enhancement of nerve regeneration using erythropoietin after peripheral nerve injury and provide experimental basis for clinical application of erythropoietin on peripheral nerve injury. The transected rat sciatic nerve model was used to assess the role of erythropoietin on motor neuron in spinal cord of L4~L6 by Nissl staining , CHE and ACP histochemical staining , TUNNEL staining and Bcl-2 immunohistochemical staining. The sciatic nerve crush model was used to assess the role of erythropoietin on peripheral nerve regeneration. These results suggest that erythropoietin is capable of protecting motor neurons from death, decreasing the changes in activity of cholinesterase and acid phosphatase, promoting the expression of bcl-2 and preventing the apoptosis of spinal cord neurons induced by peripheral nerve injury; Erythropoietin can promote the nerveregeneration and the functional recovery after peripheral nerve injury. |
