A. cordata Thunb. is the root of Araliaceae Aralia cordata Thunb. , which is the mainstream variety of merchandise jiuyanduhuo . It is also recorded in Sichuan Medicines and Chemical Reagents Standards in 1987. It is pungent in taste and slightly warm in nature. This plant has good efficacy in expelling wind and activating blood circulation, relieving fever and stopping pain, dispersing wind-evil and tonifying deficiency, and inducing diuresis to remove edema. Therefore, it' s used in medicine to treat wind-dampness arthralgia, soreness and weakness of waist and knees, headache and dizziness, etc.The previous test of the plant' s chemical components shows that it probably contains amino acid, proteins, polypetides, fatty oils, tannins, coumarins, triterpenes, steroids, saponins, etc, and it' s reported that these components are also contained in other wild A. cordata thunb. . Meanwhile, eleven saponins, diterpene carboxylic acids, polyactylenes have already been isolated from Japan- produced A. cordata thunb. . But till now, there is no yet any comprehensive and systematic research work done on the function of A. cordata thunb. in inhibiting inflammation and stopping pain.The research work consists of the following aims. To find out the difference and similarity between cultivar variety and wild varieties by comparing their shape and properties ,powder micrograph, thin layer chromatography, ultraviolet scanning, and high performance liquid chromatography; By utilizing animal test- model in inhibitinginflammation and stopping pain, to select effective parts of the A. cordata thumb. , isolate its chemical components systematically, and further more, identify the structure and composition of the isolated parts; Meanwhile, through carrying on pharmacological experiment on ir'C'i" contained components, to test their efficacy in inhibiting inflammation and stopping pain; Based on all the research works above, to find out the method to test the content of A. cordata thumb, and as well the criteria to evaluate the inner quality of this plant.The result shows that the ethereal extract from cultivar A. cordata thumb, possesses the activity in inhibiting inflammation and stopping pain . Directed by this test result, eight components have also been isolated and purified from this extract. By means of UV,IR, 'H-NMR, I3CNMR, they were identified as (I ) kaur-I6-eh-19-6Ic acid, (II) docosanoic, (III) hexadecanoic acid, (IV) stigmasterol, (V) 16-formyl-kaur-15-en-19-oicacid, (VI)7~oxo-ent-pimara-8(14),15-dien-19-oic acid, ( Vfl ) 17-Hydroxy-ent-kaur-15-en-19-oicacid, ( Wl ) sitosterol. Components II, III, VI were isolated from the gunus of Aralia for the first time.Pharmacological experiment on rich -contained component I(kaur-16-en-19-oic acid),which seems to be one of the active components of A. coidata thunb., has the same medicial function as traditional A. cordata thunb..Adapting high performance liquid chromatography, test is carried up on components V (16-formyl-kaur-15-en-19-oic acid), VI (7-oxo-ent-pimara-8(14), 15-dien-19-oic acid), VII (17-Hydroxy-ent-kaur-15-en-19-oic acid), which also function well in absorbing ultra- violet. Scientific criteria based on the test is drawn out.In summary, cultivar A. cordata thunb. was studied systematically. This research work preliminarily illustrated the material base of A.
