Objective: To investigate the disorder of gastrointestinal motiliy (especially gastric motiliy) in experimental Piqixu rats and the curative effect of Six Gentlemen Decoction at the different levels of organ, tissue and cell. Methods: Measuring the gastric residual rate and intestinal propulsive ratio, using through BD2OOO at the same time; recording gastromyoelectrical activity of the rat antrum with Biopac MP150 systems; recording the contraction in the isolated gastric corpus' s (superior 1/3 part) and antral circular muscle strips under the action Of MTL; measuring the motility of the isolated gastric antral circular smooth muscle cells under the action Of MTL alone or VIP then MTL. Results: (1) There were obvious increases of the gastric residual rates and intestinal propulsive ratios in Pixu models, compared with the control group. The Six Gentlemen Decoction could diminish the increases of the gastric residual rates and intestinal propulsive ratios simultaneously, while there was only a little reduce in spontaneous recover group. (2) The frequencies and amplitudes of slow wave, frequencies of fastwave at the antrum descended in Pixu models while the difference of frequencies was not obvious compared with the control group. The Six Gentlemen Decoction could help return to normal, but there is just a little amelioration in spontaneous recover group. (3) Under the action of MTL, the increased amplitudes of spontaneous contraction waves of gastric corpus' s (superior 1/3 part) and antral circular muscle strips in Pixu models were lower than the control group, there were little differences of frequencies of the wave between these two groups. The Six Gentlemen Decoction could help return to normal, but there was just a little amelioration in spontaneous recover group. Under the action of VIP then MTL, the degree of contraction of antral muscle strip in Pixu models was decreased 15.91%, while the control group was 23.32%. The Six Gentlemen Decoction could help return to normal, but there was just a little amelioration in spontaneous recover group. (4) Under the action of MTL, the degree of contraction in Pixu models was obviously lower than the control group. Under the action of VIP then MTL, the degree of contraction in Pixu models was decreased 15. 91%, while the control group was 23. 32%. The Six Gentlemen Decoction could help return tonormal, but there is just a little amelioration in spontaneous recover group. Conclusions: (1) In the Pixu model the gastric emptying was weakened and the gastric motility was reduced. The Six Gentlemen Decoction could improve the gastric motility efficiently. On the other hand, Pixu model demonstated obvious intestinal hyperkinesias. The Six Gentlemen Decoction could regulate this disorder of gastrointestinal motility in Pixu model. (2) Six Gentlemen Decoction could recover the abnormality of GEA in Pixu model. (3) At the level of smooth muscle tissue, there was abnormality of gastric motility in Pixu model and the Six Gentlemen Decoction could heal it. (4) At the level of smooth muscle cell, there was abnormality of gastric motility in Pixu model and the Six Gentlemen Decoction could improve it.
