Rice quality, yield, and nitrogen use efficiency can be improved through nitrogen fertilizer strategy, such as the rate and the timing of application. The objective of this study was to find the suitable way of nitrogen application for improving the rice yield, quality , and NUE under the condition of the high yield. The two-year trail was run from 2003 to 2004 at the field experimental farm. Using Wuxiangjing14, Changyou1, Fengyouzhangzhan and Kyou818 and planted with a total applied nitrogen amount of 225kg/666.7m~2 in the all growth stage. The different proportion of N-fertilizer at earlier and middle stages (the ratio of basic-tilling and stem-booting fertilizer was 3:7, 4:6, 5:5, 6:4and 7:3, respectively) and N-applying leaf age of stem-booting N-fertilizers (Stage of remaining leaf primordium number 5,3, 5,4,3,2,1, 4,2, 3,1, respectively) were imposed on the experiment. In 2005, Using Wuxiangjing14, Changyou1, Fengyouzhangzhan at 7.5kg/666.7m~2 N application rate which was addressed only once in the whole life on the base of basic fertilizer. The different N addressed time was stage of remaining leaf primordium number 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, respectively (The code was D5, D4, D3, D2, D1).The contrasted treatment was CK without N application. The effects of nitrogen operation on rice yield,Nitrogen Use Efficiency and quality were studied. The main results were as follows:(1) Nitrogen regulation had great effect on the yield of heavy panicle type of rice including Wuxiangjing14,Changyou1hao, Fengyouxiangzhan and Kyou818 under the condition of the high yield. W obtain the highest yield with the treatment of 7.5,3 which is remarkably higher than the treatment of 9,3 and obviously significant higher than the other treatment. Both Changyou1hao and Fengyouxiangzhan obtained the highest yield with treatment of 9,3 and it is obviously significant higher than the other treatments. The yield of Kyou818 was the hightest with the treatment of 9,3. There was no obvious difference with the treatment of 9,1 while significant higher than the other treatment.
