This paper summarized the actuality of how to know and control the safety of foundation under the ground by monitoring in the site at home and abroad, in order to find out the safety of the large-scale bridges' foundation and basement in the course of construction and service period. The monitoring system of bridge foundation and basement is built, making use of the theory of slope monitoring, and integrating the special characteristics of foundation and basement of the bridges in the structure, loading and construction. Some specific problems of this system are discussed too. The works of this paper is as follows in summery:1. The monitoring system of bridge foundation and basement is built. The design theory of monitoring system, information transmitting system and the forecasting theory of safety building on the base of computation models, specialist knowledge and similar engineering are discussed in detail.2. The paper reviewed the status of the back analysis of mechanics parameters in the monitoring system, and then the FEM-neural network method making use of back analysis of mechanics is put forward. This method improves the efficiency. Because the unitive method of analyzing the sensitivity of parameters is reached in the system, and the information selection, the design of the target functions and the back analysis is applied on the base of the sensitivity of parameters, the system improves the efficiency greatly.3. Many bridges' foundation locates on the layer-to-layer rock and soil, and the mechanics parameters of the weak layer can not be back analyzed by common back analysis methods. A new target function is brought forward on the base of macroscopic strain and the mechanics parameters can be more accurate using this target function.4. The design of monitoring system of Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge foundation and basement is described in detail, and the inspection data are analyzed by specialist knowledge and theory models and the deformation and stability of anchorage is forecasted in good accuracy.
