Coal and gas outburst is one of the most fearful disaster to impact the safety states during coal mining.For the mechanism of the disaster is not clear yet, however the accidents caused by that are become much more heavier, a directive idea has been brought forward in this paper, which pays attention to enhance the ablilities of spot engineering and technical personnels to apply practically the relevant theories and to manage and analyse information from the gas outburst coal mass on prognosticating gas outburst;and which specially emphasizes that the human as the principal part must act a dominant and positive role on the task.Based on that above,the research solutions to develop an information system for prognosticating gas outburst has been confirmed which can be illuminated briefly as below:(1) The need and significance of developing an information system for prognosticating gas outburst have been discussed;the actualities and limitations of current studying conclusions also have been summarized.The research solutions and technic routes have have been set down, which are based on gas and geological theories and are generated on based on Geographical Information System(GIS) software.(2) Considering the features and transform disciplinarian of information, introducing of systematic analyse ideas,the processes and patterns of getting and managing gas and geological information have been probed into.(3) Based on the theories of measuring off gas and geological regions,a new method by combining the technics of fault tree analysis and artifical neural net simulation has been studied to prognosticate gas outburst.(4) The trend analyse method for gas and geological variables has been discussed,the variables which affect and control gas outburst's happening.And the researchs on how to realize the spacial variables' visualization also have been made.(5) The evolution process,function sort and implementing in detail of information system have been analyzed,and on the base of it,a feasible way of developing an information system for prognosticating gas outburst has been confirmed,which can meet the safety management in coal mining very well.(6) The material methods and processes of developing an information system for prognosticating gas outburst have been discussed in detail,which mainly involves in creating the correlative function modules,database,repository,and in it 's realizing andrunning.(7) "The information system for prognosticating gas outburst of Luling coal mine" has been attempted to make on the base of its actual condition and spot data.(8) Finally, all the research contents in this paper have been concluded and summarized systemicly,and some problems and shortage are also pointed out and assessed.The new aim and request after the paper have been made,at the same time,the applying foreground to the system has been prospected.This paper comprises two threads of research thought on the whole.In the first visible one,the methods for developing an information system for prognosticating gas outburst on the base of gas and geological theories are probed into,which is aimed to manage and apply gas and geological information effectively,and to offer the spot engineering and technical personnels decision supports needed for safety management.In the second invisible one,that human is the principal part in prevention and cure of gas outburst has been emphasized fully, those spot personnels must master systematic gas and geological theories entirely and deeply, and their abilities to analyse disaster exactly in real time must be enhanced.On the other hand,it is the general objective of this paper,that aims to improve the technics for gas outburst prediction effectively,and plays an important role in defending the disaster in coal mining.
